The incident took place around 11:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 22, when police responded to Albe Furs at 286 Post Road East for a report of a theft in progress, said Lt. Anthony Prezioso.
Once on the scene, officers were told that three men entered the business and grabbed several fur coats from displays.
The men then quickly left the store and fled toward a waiting vehicle in a nearby parking lot, Prezioso said.
Multiple witnesses provided officers with a description of the suspects as well as of their vehicle; including a registration marker plate number, he said.
The description and vehicle information was broadcast to all patrols who began systematically searching the area for the vehicle, however, the suspects were not located.
The victim is currently in the process of conducting an inventory of merchandise and believes that the value of the coats taken may be significantly higher than $11,000.
After learning of today’s incident, another local business contacted police to report that the same suspects had been in that store on Thursday, Nov. 21, inquiring about fur coats, however, nothing was taken at that time.
Police ask that any business which believes they may have been recently visited by the suspects, or anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Westport Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 203-341-6080.
